Xanthippe’s Side

xantippe

There are two things that I would like to take a moment to clarify – well, at least two.

First, Socrates my husband would have been nothing without me. I was the real brains of the operation. Have you ever heard of the Socratic method? Yeah, it should probably be called the Xanthippic method – but, whatever.

Second, many men hate uppity wives. They claim not to – that they like “strong women.” Yeah, right. My husband really loved me – and I him.

That’s why (by the way) I switched the hemlock out for something else and we enjoyed a long life together after he supposedly died. Take that, Greek History.

  1. Thank your for writing about someone I knew nothing about. I imagine her name was kept under wraps by her contemporaries and most historians. Always great to learn something new. And I agree — some men (not all) only pretend to like strong women. 🙂
    Great post.
