Anyone would get angry if hunted with spears, and my pet Chechi was no exception. As far as I knew, he was the last of his kind, the last of the great bears.

Scientists say that his kind died out long ago, if they ever even existed.

I know better, just as surely as I know that he is dead now, long dead, so you can stop looking for him. If you want to find me, on the other hand, I will be living in that old mud-daub hut, the one near the brook where I found his body. I’ll be there, alone with my thoughts and waiting.

This is my C post for the A-Z Challenge. Cryptids have always fascinated me, whether the Jersey Devil or Chupacabra. I decided to pick one with a fun picture on Wikipedia and of course it turned out to be a scary one, so I figured a scary story would be the best. (There are also fun and cute cryptids, but they don’t get as much airtime.)
