The earth has gone quiet and still. The last ambulance siren screamed goodbye over a day ago. It doesn’t matter. The latest news announcement grimly doubted that any of us will survive for long.
We sit on plastic lawn chairs, sharing a bottle of tequila.
“You always said you would go to the ends of the earth with me.”
“I was hoping it wouldn’t come to that. But hey, at least we’ve got each other.”
Shot glass clinks on shot glass. “At least we’ve got each other.”

Thanks Rochelle and Dale for another awesome prompt. I hope everyone has a great, non-catastrophic week. This week has been really nice here, and I’ve gotten so much done, I almost forgot the Friday Fictioneer/A-Z post for today. Fortunately, this picture was really inspiring. It feels like such a moment in time and so many stories begging to be written.
Such a dreadful future looming. They are very calm. Must be the tequila. 🙂
They seem to have accepted their fate. I hope I’d be able to in their situation.
The restaurant at the end of the universe
come what may, i love the positive attitude. 🙂
A philosophical acceptance of their fate – what’s the point in worrying?!
If you have to go, I can’t think of a better way than with someone you truly love. Beautiful story.
Today’s Jethro Tull song:
What a good way to go, if go we must. Tequila and love… But still a story with a warning to us before it’s too late. Such a good story.
Me and you, we’ve got each other, just us two and a bottle of tequila. What possible could go wrong. Loved the imagery.
Together they are a team, so calm & carefree.
You, Me & US – both of them have great company.
Before the storm, comes the calm.

I kinda love that your tale mirrors Iain’s but with a whole different feel to it!!! Yay to You – here’s a clink for the last letter tomorrow – but this is, hopefully, just the start of our friendship! YAM xx
Well, at least they’ve got the tequila. And each other.
Romantic in an apocalyptic sort of way. Well done, Anne.
It’s true. We can handle most anything as long as we have someone to love and be loved by.
Sad but romantic.
A calm sense of acceptance comes through and as the others said you can feel the romance in an apocalyptic world.
You’ve written a touching story of an enchanting heartfelt love.
A lovely moment for them during a tragedy.
Be Safe 😷 … Isadora 😎
They are rather philosophical about it. But I guess, when it is out of your hands, why stress over it? Clink! They are in it (our out of it) together!
The couple seem very philosophical about the end of the world. Guess they are being realistic, and they have each other.
Dear Anne,
Poignant and evocative piece. You’re almost to Z. 😉
Shalom,
Rochelle
I love this. Drinks and acceptance amongst the ruins of life.
they await their fate very philosophically. It’s probably the only way. Nicely told
