Float Like a Butterfly
You should have seen her dancing on the ice, should have seen her dangling like the final icycle of approaching spring
As she completed the third and final revolution before landing with a perfectly defiant swish,
As she continued, to dance, to defy gravity and pain.
Alas, you had to be elsewhere, looking down from heaven (?)
If you had been there, you would have stood with the crowd, clapping, but
Eyes closed, a single tear falling, she can only wonder, as she bows to the cheering crowd, the full crowd
Minus one.

This is my entry for Friday Fictioneers, a weekly writing group led by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. It’s been a while after some health concerns. Trying to get back into regular writing and other lifestyle adjustments necessary if I want to stay on this planet for a few more decades, because I’ve been told that I need to do so if I want to stick around. Which some days more than others, right?

Awww… touches all the feels. Beautifully done, Anne.
Nice you are writing again, Anne. I’m not going to read the weekly novel, but this is lovely. Regina
