We’ve been together for two years. I’m ready to settle down, find a nice pasture, maybe think about bearing foals together.

I invite her to my favorite fairy grove. It’s perfect.

A rainbow sky melts down onto sparkling flowers that exude sweet smells, like candy and summertime and home. All around us, the fairies of the grove buzz about on fairy wings, taking care to give us space for our private moment. Just two unicorns, talking.

“Zailen, will you marry me?”

“I’m not a virgin,” she points out, her hoof resting delicately on the ground.

“Neither am I. I mean, we … aren’t virgins together.”

“We’re both unicorns,” she reminds me.

“Yes. I mean, I’m not really attracted to … non-unicorns.”

“Unicorns are supposed to only be attracted to virgins.”

Well. Technically that is true, but…. I have no idea what to say here. We couldn’t make baby unicorns if we didn’t bend the rules a little.

“Okay, then,” she says.

I pause. Was that another question, or…. “Yes? You’re saying yes?”

“Make me the happiest mare on the planet. Yes!”
