Coming Home
Azure fantasies, all I had from within steel-barred walls. Memories of you like a butterfly flittering in for a moment, gone.
We both agreed that I needed to do this, to do what I could. And now,
The work is done. You’re waiting beneath buzzing, fluorescent lights, no other guests, just you and me.
You don’t ask me if it worked, if we solved the riddle, if we found a cure. (We did.) No, you simply hold me close, soft flannel warm beneath my cheek. Your aftershave, oh the scent of you. Just like that, I’m home.

This is my entry for Friday Fictioneers from which I’ve taken a bit of a break. Between work and grad school, life has been a bit crazy but I have a holiday break and decided to drop by to see what’s up. I’m looking forward to reading the other stories. Hope all are well.

Beautiful, Anne. Her perseverence, his patience and now, together again.
There is a sense of contented happiness in the story.
Welcome back, Anne. Good to read you again
Dear Anne,
Welcome back! 😀
Love this homecoming piece. It felt like a warm hug.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Welcome back! This is such a beautiful, sensual scene. No expectations, just feelings and acceptance.
Welcome back! Life does have a way of getting crazy, glad you could drop in during your break. As everyone said above it is a sensual, warm piece. The flannel beneath the cheek is a nice detail. It is also quite evocative and intriguing. What have they discovered the cure for? Why is it just the two of them at such a momentous time? Hope you can come back soon.
There’s a novel called The Scent of You. Yours is a sweet story of comfort and acceptance. Well written.
I can feel her relief and comfort in your images of their reunion. Such a contrast with her memories of their separation. I’m intrigued too, by the hints you give about why they were apart.
I loved “warm flannel beneath my cheek.” So comforting.
Warm and cozy imaginings, Anne. Happy to see you drop in to FF. Hope you can drop in again soon.
