Up From the Ashes
“I never thought I would live to see this day. When things were at their worst, when my whole life went up in smoke, you were always there for me. If only you could see me now, what would you think? But you do see me, with your heart if not with your eyes.”
As far as any of the people in his online Recovery Support Group knew, Phoenix was being figurative. One day, he hoped to meet them face to face so they could see the gorgeous, fiery bird he was always meant to be.
He clicked Send.
I think you might be missing a word between “could him” in the second to last sentence. See, maybe? I hope they can see him with their hearts. Nice one, Anne.
Thanks Amy! Fixing it now.
No problem!
Nice, using the image of the phoenix rising from the fire of what he’s recovering from.
Dear Anne,
I love the idea of an online support group. I’ve been part of a couple. I’ve also made some lasting friendships online. I wasn’t sure if this was a suicide note or a message of hope. Nonetheless it was beautifully written and maybe you meant for it to be left open to interpretation. 😉
Shalom,
Rochelle
You meet the funniest birds on online recovery groups.
I have a friend who’s a pilot. His recovery group is called “Birds of a Feather”. Go figure.

Anne, I’m not sure if he’s an alien or it was figuative. He doesn’t seem, from what he says, to be human but some kind of bird-like creature. like a Phoenix. Anyway, it was a well-written story. 🙂 —Susan
Nice work. I left them full of questions wondering how all of them would meet. 🙂
