Celebrate the Small Things

Happy Friday!

How was your week? I had a fairly productive one. I’ve made definite plans to go visit relatives in Canada who I’ve never met before. Depending on the how the Fall elections go here in the States, I may just ask about moving there permanently. (Just kidding!)

My other major accomplishment this week is the re-discovery of a manuscript/story I’ve been working on since I was a small child, my first novel ever. Re-reading it and seeing the concepts I’m struggling with to this day, I’ve decided to focus my editing on getting that story ready to be published for free, online – something which I have wanted to do for over a decade now. I love this story so much and so deeply I just want it out there. But I also want it to be beautiful. Also, I’m viewing this as a necessary learning experience for myself to grow as a writer.

These little, achievable writing goals. I definitely need them.

Also this week, got my cardio in every day. In lieu of the gym most days I’ve been walking the fitness loop at the mall because it’s much more convenient to get to.

In general, it’s been a pretty good week. How about yours?

It’s Friday again and another week has past. It’s time to celebrate.

This week I’m celebrating typing The End to a novel draft, the chance to spend time with family, and some rare good weather apart from the heat and rain. In between the occasional thunderstorm and 90+ temps it’s been super pleasant. I have gotten a lot of little things done this week like a new shelf for my work nook and other small organization projects. How about you? How’s your week going?

Celebrate the Small Things

I’m in a big rush as I write this one for Celebrate the Small Things, hosted by Lexa Cain.

This week I have a lot to celebrate. Lots of writing and other work done, including housework and  yardwork and daily exercise. Have to run now due to going to visit my dad’s girlfriend then my dad as part of planning a surprise 80th birthday party for him. Also celebrating that!

Peace!

Here’s my post for Celebrate the Small Things, where every Friday we celebrate our accomplishments for the week, and I have to be honest, it has been a while – and I’m kind of wiped this week.

My dad just got out of the hospital again and is in rehab, which is something to celebrate as – long story short, our family is mostly glad he got to the hospital because he gave us a bit of a scare.

Writing is going well. I have done a few small pieces for little drips of money (but every little bit helps!) and am now working on finishing a draft for a novel I started years ago and unearthed while trying to decide what to do for NaNo. Also, I’ve been going to the gym regularly.

The kittens are doing well and making me smile daily with their antics. Funny story. I had to have a plumber in to fix the kitchen drain and while he was here and I was waiting I decided to put the kittens in the bedroom so they would not be underfoot. Meanwhile, I got on the phone to check on my dad.

Somehow, while I was on the phone the kittens got out of the bedroom – they are so adorable and persistent, I just want to … cuddle them sometimes. And because the plumber was here doing interesting things, they decided it would be fun to climb into the cabinet under the sink. I watched them do it and decided that I’d gt them out of there as soon as I was done on the phone, so I closed the doors.

The phone call dragged on a bit longer than I thought it would and next thing I know I hear the plumber screaming! Well, it as a very masculine and manly scream. 😉 For the rest of his time there, he kept telling me that was a “really good joke.” He didn’t believe me that it was an accident, that I was just a really horrible pet owner at my wits end, because I couldn’t pick them both up when I was on the phone and God only knows what kinds of crazy hijinks they would be up to in a minute once they were done with the sink.

Sigh.

Anyway, I told this story to my family afterward and they agreed that they would not have believed me either that it had been an accident.

What do you think? How has your week been?

Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate blog hopOkay I’m officially really, really behind this week. Here’s my post for Celebrate the Small Things, helmed by Lexa Cain where every week we get together to celebrate and stay positive!

This week, I have a few things to celebrate, writing wise. Keeping up with my Nano Numbers at 29616 today. Had a number of clients accept short pieces this week (4 business writing and 1 ghostwritten novella) with the result that I’ll actually make enough to pay the bills this month. Also, I’m back at work editing another novel.

A couple more cute kitten pictures. I have officially named the kittens Duke and Jasmine. They’re getting bigger and cuter and able to jump much higher than you’d think so there is nothing safe in the house anymore..

Oh that’s the human again taking pictures of us. Back to nap time in between those old closet doors and the roll of paper towels you left on the counter where we couldn’t possibly get to it (haha!) and which we have decided to make our own.

Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate blog hop

I am way behind for this weeks post for Celebrate the Small Things, helmed by Lexa Cain, where every Friday we get together to celebrate the past week. But I have some good reasons, because I have some stuff to celebrate!

I have to be honest, I was feeling pretty down this week, due to a couple of (non-fiction) rejections. Despite the rejections, I was determined to continue submitting to this market, honestly afraid any second now they’re going to remove my access due to me doing so badly (and then what will I do for money right? – well there are plenty of freelance sites out there.) And I sold a piece this week for more than twice the normal rate! Like others have told me, rejections tend to come in spurts so not to let it get me down when a few happen in a row – but I was pretty down.

That’s not all. I just signed up for another freelance site and while I was there decided to post for a few jobs. AND I got hired to ghost-write (drum roll) a romance short story. A romance short story! So I’ve been working on that. It’s a tight deadline and I’m still doing NaNo as well, but it’s one of those opportunities too good to pass up.

I’m going to share a silly secret. When I was young, I was a big fan of Mercedes Lackey, including her Diana Tregarde series.

And in her Diana Tregarde series, the main character makes a living writing (drum roll) cheap and sleazy romance novels. And I always thought how great it would be to do that when I grew up. But how do you get a job like that? Now I know.

Oh and I’m still way ahead on my Nano novel too! Going great. And honestly, I don’t know if I’d have the guts to accept this assignment except that I was able to say yes – given an outline and character sketches, I can do 10,000 words in under a week, no problem. Because now I know I can. I’m finishing up the rough draft today and it’s due middle of next week which will give me plenty of time for edits because 10,000 words in 1 and a half days no problem for us NaNoWriMos right? Can you tell, I’m super excited?

One more piece of good news, the kittens made it to their first vet appointment, and they are healthy, 7-8 weeks old according to the vet. Despite being strays whose mommy left them, they are very well socialized and very well behaved according to the vet. I’m still struggling with names for them. I am thinking Duke or maybe Prince for the boy kitten because he likes to be in charge. For the girl kitten I’m thinking Jasmine, because she’s sweet but spicy! And then, I thought they could be Prince and Jasmine, like from Aladdin?

Maybe? Can’t decide!!

Prince and Jasmine? Duke and Jasmine? What is the silly human going to name us already?

Wow, it’s been a surprisingly good week. How about you? How’s your week going? I’m super-psyched about ghost-writing a tawdry romance. I really am. This is like my dream job, literally. Now I’m kind of nervous I’m going to mess  it up. But, I’m okay. Really.
