I turn down the music in my 2022 Ford pickup and wait for my boss to answer the call, which she does right away.
“What is it this time?” she asks. “Flat tire?”
“Does it matter?” I ask, watching the geese cross the road in front of me, slowly. One turns to honk at me, as if to remind me to wait.
“You really need to settle things with that Fae prince,” she says. “You have two more days right, before he abducts you? Good employees are hard to find.”
I hang up without further comment.

I’m currently reading Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Fairies (by Heather Fawcett), and getting all into Fawcett’s take on The Wee Folk. That’s probably why what started out as a “late to work again” story decided to take a twist into fantasy.

Be careful of those wee, canny folk. They be tricksy! And once you are on in one’s debt, who knows what may happen!

Well, I wasn’t expecting it to go there
Dear Anne,
A Fae prince sounds nice. 😉 It does sound like her boss values her.
Shalom,
Rochelle
What tales has she been telling her boss? Perhaps she is working up to getting sacked.
Hmm. Work for a boss, or enjoy a fae prince? I know what I would choose!
