Sitting in the front yard, she smiles at the child staring wide-eyed.

“But you got the bad guy, right?”

“Yep. I got a sprained ankle, but he gets life in prison.”

Her husband arrives with iced tea as the children leave. “Telling tales again?”

“Would I do that?”

“Hmph. I also didn’t think you’d use a chair to change the lightbulb while I went to get the step ladder. What do I know?”

“Let me have one small win.”

“In your dreams.”

“Exactly.” She sips on her tea, and he puts an arm around her, holding her tight.

This is my entry for Friday Fictioneers, where every week we write 100-word stories in response to a prompt.

Hope everyone in the U.S. has/had a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving. I learned that cooking is even harder than it looks. I’m hoping that Star Trek-style food replicators come along soon. It’s just a matter of time….

  1. I don’t think anyone fails to embellish a good story to make it better. She needs to be careful, though. It WILL come back to bite her as her kids wise up 🙂
