My response to the weekly prompt at Friday Fictioneers, where every week we write 100 word stories, and have fun doing it.
Title: First Day at Work, Genre: Slipstream
Marvin was warned his new job would be high-stress, but he wanted to help people. On his first day, he spilled coffee in the midst of a rescue maneuver in Edinburgh.
He set down the iPad for a second to mop up the mess. By the time he picked it up again, it was too late.
Watcher Emily came at five for the overnight shift. Her psychic abilities weren’t nearly as good as his, but she had more experience.
“Saw the headline,” she said. “Ten hikers lost in the Andes. Sorry. Better luck tomorrow.”

This reminds me entirely too much of some RPGs I’ve game-overed.
😦 ouch! sorry for the negative connotations but thanks for stopping by!
Poor guy…all for a bit of spilt coffee…an interesting idea and write!
that was so unexpected. well done. a very fresh and imaginative take on the photo.
That’s a lot of responsibility on one pair of shoulders. Nice one.
Thanks Rochelle. And yeah not an easy jov
Nicely done! Thank you for the follow! ^..^
Thanks and you’re welcome and aw…kitty!
Ooh, I like your style… great imagination! 😀
I love how you got so much story in so few words. I can never do that!
Dear Anne, A lot of thinking going on here. Too much to do, but Marvin will get trained and used to the workload. Psychic? Very interesting, and scary that spilling a cup of coffee could make such a difference in the success or failure of the job. Good work! Nan 🙂
Anne, Good story. A lot of tension. Let’s hope the job gets better. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
Thanks Susan. and hm… That could be good for a long story.. 🙂 Anne
Emily seems a little flippant about the whole thing? To much stress = ??? Well done,
