FF: I Have a Dream

In between heaven and earth, Susannah pauses to dream with her eyes open. It’s a cold Memphis morning, the chill reaching beneath her thin black jacket.

Once upon a time, she would have been born a slave. Now she has career options.

These days, she wonders if Martin Luther King Jr. is looking down from heaven, shaking his head.

She, for one, chooses to believe in a God who would not judge or exclude anyone based purely on external appearance. And so, she gets into her humble subcompact car to drive to the church for her ordination into the Episcopal church.

This is my post for Friday Fictioneers, written very quickly before work. The picture inspired me due to the reflection, making me think of dreams and my idea of heaven as the kind of place where we are still us – but better. Thanks for the picture prompt to Rochelle, our ever-fearless leader.
