Outside the kitchen window, everything seems to slow as I pour milk into cereal.
Our tuxedo cat Robbie taps my leg with his cold nose. I reach down to scratch behind his ears, as you enter the kitchen.
“Breakfast for dinner again?”
Two days ago, our last child left for college in Paris, an ending and a beginning. I didn’t even realize I was doing it, or why.
“Pour me a bowl too?”
I shake my head, like coming out of a daze.
“Sure. But the cat gets crunchies first. The kids come first.” I laugh.
Robbie purrs loudly, sensing victory.

Something about this image just conjured so much nostalgia feelings, and then I wanted to write about endings and beginnings. I’ve always found twilight such a fascinating concept.
